Cartilage

Recombinant human amelogenin (rHAM+) was produced in an eukaryotic baculovirus expression system by a team of researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.

rHAM+ delivery to a rat femoral trochlea osteochondral defect, a well established and common model for testing cartilage repair, demonstrated almost full recovery 6 months after a single injection.

Ligaments

Transected rat ligaments treated with rHAM+ showed closure of the knee medial collateral ligament within two weeks, and full regeneration after 3 months while no regeneration was observed in the control rats.

The dramatic improvement in ligament structure was observed after only a single injection of rHAM+.

Histological analyses showed dramatic tissue regeneration in the treated versus the control group.
